RSPCA Qld presents an exciting opportunity for an industry trade qualified maintenance professional to join the team based at the Wacol Animal Care Campus.

About the role

Proving vital help to all creatures great and small by proactively managing the day-to-day operational requirements, overseeing facility maintenance, and handling maintenance service requests. This hands-on role provides an excellent opportunity for those looking to make a positive impact in the lives of animals and those who care for them.


Key position responsibilities:

  • Oversee, supervise, and participate in facility maintenance activities, prioritising tasks based on urgency and need.
  • Develop and manage facility maintenance schedules, identifying and allocating required resources.
  • Provide a key focus on cost saving initiatives and utilising internal skillset before hiring externally.
  • Administer the facility maintenance budget, including preparing cost estimates, budget recommendations, and justifications for equipment procurement.
  • Monitor and manage supplies and equipment, overseeing the procurement process as necessary.
  • Implement and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance and safety inspection program, including visiting locations at minimum on a quarterly basis.
  • Coordinate with contractors for the delivery of contracted services.
  • Prepare and maintain annual maintenance plans and engage with clients on asset management planning initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements for essential services.
  • Control financial expenditures within agreed budgets.
  • Manage contractor performance to ensure efficient and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Oversee maintenance and minor building works, including local and regional site inspections and contract supervision.
  • Visit regional sites quarterly to provide maintenance, gardening and safety assistance.
  • Manage internal projects from trade engagement to handover.
  • Ensure safety risk assessments are conducted and documented, and staff are trained in safe operating procedures.

Who are we looking for?

  • Holds relevant trade qualifications and can demonstrate experience in the building services industry, particularly focused on facilities maintenance.
  • Possesses a General Construction Safety Card (White/Blue Card).
  • Is well-versed with current work health and safety legislation and its application in a commercial office environment.
  • Holds a current driver’s license (mandatory).
  • Has proven experience in facilities maintenance planning, budgeting, and management.
  • Experience in contractor management (highly desirable).
  • Has leadership skills and experience managing and developing teams.
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service.
  • Possesses well-developed negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Exhibits the ability to plan, manage building maintenance operations and work under pressure.
  • Has strong communication skills and the ability to relate to a diverse range of people.
  • Knowledge of relevant OH&S legislative requirements, risk assessment procedures, and control measures.

This is a full-time position primarily servicing our Wacol Animal Care Campus and may include occasionally providing support to our regional sites. Some infrequent overnight travel may be required. Remuneration is commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
